Smartphones may have only been seen as a way to stay connected with others, but smartphones have recently been taken to the next level.Smartphones can now enhance certain senses. In a way, smartphones are still being used as a way for peole to stay connected, but the people that this new technological advance is effecting is a group of people that it didn't effect before. Now the hearing impared will have an easier way to stay connected with others, just like everyone else who uses a smartphone for that purpose.
A few years back, President Obama signed a bill aiming to ease the use of technology for the disabled. With this new bill, the hearing and seeing disabled, will be able to have easier access to the internet. Obama believes in allowing everyone to be able to experience the newest technology that society allows. He said, "It sets new standards so that Americans with disabilities can take advantage of the technology our economy depends on."
With this new advancement in technology, people with disabilities are becoming more and more involved in regular activities. These new inventions are making it easier for people to go about their day as if they didn't have a disability at all. The outlook for smartphones and technology is only increasing in the future.

Hey Shelby! I thought that this post about how the technology is able to help people with hearing disabilities is really interesting! With the constant growth in the technological field, I wonder in what other ways people will be able to help those with disabilities. I think that using cellphones is a great incentive considering that's what "today's generation" is all about. Its a great innovative idea which I think will benefit younger kids, allowing them to feel like they fit in better. Is there any other ongoing experiments, ideas or processes going on to further this? Any case studies?

ReplyDeleteI get that hearing can be a benefit for the disabled, but in my opinion, the cons of smart phones outweigh the benefits. Smart phones take away independence, they impact a person's social life, and they open up people to a whole new world of people that could affect their lives in negative ways, such as drug abuse. If one didn't have all of this, their lives could be completely different. For example, that one girl that killed herself by drinking bleach because she did something, and it followed her everywhere she moved. She could be alive and healthy today if it weren't for that. So really, I think they are great tools, but they create a terrible opportunity for harassment.
